Barafoetida is a band born in 2014 in the province of Rovigo, Italy composed by Luke Warner, Triplax Vermifrux & Denny Z as a group of electronic music with pop-dark influences.
In 2016 they released their first album, a dark-ambient genre called 'Necronomicon' (self-produced), followed in 2017 by the DEMO 'A Coffinful of Secrets' (self-produced).
In 2018 the band released 'Buio Scarlatto'.
The album is a musical project with the union of music and images, that is the soundtrack of Fabrizio Spurio's horror film CRIPTE. The Barafoetida have attempted a fusion between electronic music, modern industrial and the vintage sounds of progressive rock and music typical of Italian genre films, released in the 70s.
The single 'Here Comes the Raven' has been released on September 4, 2018, which anticipates the mini-album of the same title.
In October 2018, they published 'Here Comes the Raven', a new mini album with the title track already released as a single and new song like 'Honest feat. Antony Crepaldi' - 'Tantrika' - 'Chemtrails & HAARP feat. Diego Banchero', and 'Do my way (remastered 2017)' already appeared as a demo on A Coffinful of Secrets and 1 remix. The digital edition contains an alternative version of Here Comes the Raven and another remix.
On December 25, 2018 at the Ca'San Barto in Treviso (Italy) was screened during the evening, the new short film "LA MARIONETTA" by Valentino Martelozzo, in collaboration with the body painter Massimo Dengo and the model Beatrice Ganeo.
The music of the short film is a new unreleased instrumental track of the Barafoetida named KAPALIKA in download on bandcamp on January 3, 2019.
In October 2019, the band released the cover song Alice of Sisters of Mercy, while in May 2020 the new single 'God Of Nothing' was released.
Both tracks are part of the new CD: "777 - ObscurA SomniA" - The album includes 11 new songs.
In 2023, the band returns with a new album entitled "Frozen Tears"
The history of the name Barafoetida
The waters of the great river have fed various myths and legends. The best known is the myth of Phaethon. Once in the chariot of the Sun, not having the necessary strength to lead the father's winged horses, he loses control of the chariot. The horses, in fact, frightened, began to run wild for the celestial vault, climbing first too high, burning a stretch of sky that became the Milky Way. Then they descended too close to the earth, devastating some territories that became deserts. To save the Earth, Zeus, angry, throws a lightning bolt against Phaethon, who falls, thus, at the mouth of the Eridanos river and dies. The Heliades, sisters of Phaethon, cry his death inconsolably and are transformed into poplars. Their tears have turned to amber. Even a friend of Phaethon, Cycnus, cries him on the banks, until the gods, pitying him, turn him into a candid bird, the swan
In their adventurous navigations, the Argonauts had gone as far as the waters of the Eridanos (present-day Po river) where Phaethon had fallen. They found the still smoking body that smelled so much that even the birds died instantly. The fetid or stinking smell would therefore derive from this myth. The myth of Phaethon inspired the Barafoetida: Bara as coffin in english (which stands for sarcophagus, that is, the land that serves as the tomb of Phaethon, or the Polesine land, the Po delta) and foetida as fetid in latin language from foetidus Phaethon

Nel 2016 realizzano il loro primo album, di genere dark-ambient dal nome Necronomicon (autoprodotto), seguito nel 2017 dal DEMO 'A Coffinful of Secrets' (autoprodotto).

L'album è un progetto musicale con l'unione di musica e immagini, ovvero la colonna sonora del film horror CRIPTE di Fabrizio Spurio. I Barafoetida hanno tentato una fusione tra musica elettronica, industriale moderna e le sonorità vintage del rock progressivo e della musica tipica dei film italiani di genere, usciti negli anni 70.
E' uscito in data 4 Settembre 2018 il singolo Here Comes the Raven che anticipa il mini-album dallo stesso titolo. Nel Ottobre 2018 pubblicano 'Here Comes the Raven EP', un nuovo mini album con la title track già uscita come singolo il 4 di Settembre, + 3 inediti: Honest feat. Antony Crepaldi - Tantrika - Chemtrails & HAARP feat. Diego Banchero, e Do my way (remastered 2017) già apparsa come demo su A Coffinful of Secrets e 1 remix. La versione digitale contiene una versione alternativa di Here Comes the Raven e un altro remix.
Il 25 Dicembre al Ca'San Barto di Treviso è stato proiettato durante la serata, il nuovo cortometraggio "LA MARIONETTA" di Valentino Martelozzo in collaborazione con il body painter Massimo Dengo e la modella Beatrice Ganeo.
La musica del corto è un nuovo brano inedito strumentale dei Barafoetida dal nome KAPALIKA in download su Bandcamp dal 3 Gennaio 2019.

La storia del nome Barafoetida
Le acque del grande fiume hanno alimentato vari miti e leggende. Il più conosciuto è il mito di Fetonte. Salito sul carro del Sole, non possedendo la forza necessaria per condurre i cavalli alati del padre, perde il controllo del carro. I cavalli, infatti, imbizzarriti, iniziarono a correre all’impazzata per la volta celeste, salendo prima troppo in alto, bruciando un tratto di cielo che divenne la Via Lattea. Poi scesero troppo vicino alla terra, devastando alcuni territori che divennero deserti. Per salvare la Terra, Zeus, adirato, scaglia un fulmine contro Fetonte, che cade, così, alle foci del fiume Eridano e muore. Le Eliadi, sorelle di Fetonte, piangono inconsolabili la sua morte e vengono trasformate in pioppi. Le loro lacrime sono mutate in ambra. Anche un amico di Fetonte, Cicno, lo piange sulle sponde, fino a quando gli dei, impietositi, lo trasformano in un candido uccello, il cigno.
Gli Argonauti nelle loro avventurose navigazioni, si erano spinti fino alle acque dell’Eridano, (attuale fiume Po) là dove era caduto Fetonte. Essi ritrovarono il corpo ancora fumante che puzzava tanto che anche gli uccelli morivano all’istante. L’espressione odore fetido o fetente deriverebbe, quindi, da questo mito. Il mito di Fetonte ha ispirato i Barafoetida cioè Bara (che sta per sarcofago cioè la terra che fa da tomba a Fetonte, ovvero la terra polesana, il delta del Po) e fetido da Fetonte
